Mary Whelan Levine
Mary partnered with her brothers in developing a retail maintenance facility business servicing the United States and Canada for 30 years: Whelan’s International. During their tenure, Mary and her partner/brother Larry Whelan were very involved in community service and helping others. Whelan’s International often held fundraisers and had team events at local walks and charitable events.
Upon her retirement, Mary maintained her philanthropic activities, raising thousands of dollars for a variety of charitable organizations, eventually deciding to begin the ACE Family Foundation. When Mary is not running marathons or cycling, she is spending time with her three daughters, sons in law, and her five grandchildren.
Michael has an impressive managerial and entrepreneurial work history. Beginning with providing printing and card store servicing across Nassau and Suffolk counties, Michael purchased a beer distributor in 1999 and ran the business until retiring around the same time as his wife Mary. An avid Yankees fan, Michael also has a passion for cars, golfing, and cycling. Whenever possible, he can be found helping his daughters and spending time with his grandchildren, especially on the sidelines of a soccer field. As a founder of the ACE Family Foundation, Michael is dedicated to steering the foundation to fulfilling the vision of he and Mary.
Emily is the oldest of the Levine girls. She graduated LIU/CW post in 2007 with a bachelors in criminal justice. Emily worked as a paralegal for 2 years before deciding to pursue a career in education. She received her Master’s degree in secondary education from Dowling College in 2011. Emily currently works as a teaching assistant in a special education classroom on Long Island. In her free time, she loves to read and cook. This past year, Emily and her husband Chris welcomed Ryder to their growing family of big brothers including Christopher, Jayden, and Gavin.
Allison Levine is an Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky in the College of Education’s Rehabilitation Counseling program. She received her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Counselor Education in 2018 from Michigan State University. Allison is a nationally Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and is the Membership Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association. Dr. Levine has worked clinically with adults with mental illnesses, homeless veterans, and currently volunteers her time career counseling for Hire Heroes USA. Allison is actively engaged in research in the area of counselor education and implicit bias. She is a proud stem cell donor, krav maga instructor, and cat lady. She and her fiancé Greg will be getting married in 2020.
Carolynn is the youngest of the Levine daughters. She graduated from Manhattanville College with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, and currently works as an admin in the facility management field. In her spare time, Carolynn enjoys reading, running races, and spending time with her husband, Mike and two fur babies Axel and Jim. Carolynn and Mike are thrilled to have recently welcomed their first daughter, Charlotte Mary, in October.
Victoria D. Whelan
Ms. Whelan graduated from SUNY Oswego in 2005 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology. Ms. Whelan is a NYS Licensed Geologist and is currently working at Preferred Environmental Services of Merrick as a Senior Associate. Professional associations include; Regional QEP Director of IPEP and CPG of AIPG. Residing in Long Beach, Victoria enjoys playing beach volleyball and Soccer for the Long Island Ladies Soccer League. Victoria is an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians – Division 17 which is dedicated to goodwill and charity.
Val served in the United States Army from 1968 through 1971. He then working as a cost accountant from 1971 to 1979 for an electrical manufacturer. Val was then employed by a regional CPA till 1984 where he then began his private accounting practice in that September. Additionally he conducts audits and tax consulting for many not-for-profit organizations.
Val is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, Nassau and Suffolk Chapter-National Conference of CPA Practitioner and is a Certified Specialist in Estate Tax Planning. Val is a graduate of Queens College with accounting. He enjoys golfing and spending time with his wife, children and grandson.
James Verdi, CFP®, is the President of Synergy Wealth Strategies, an independent financial services firm. Jim specializes in using an in-depth, overall, financial analysis approach to assist his clients in creating wealth management strategies that enable them to achieve their financial goals. He and his team deliver solutions to individuals, as well as businesses and organizations.
Prior to founding Synergy Wealth Strategies, Jim spent over 10 years developing his skills and advising clients at the world’s largest and most recognizable firms. In 2008, Jim and his team determined that the best way to provide the levels of service and advice that their clients deserved was to pursue the path of independent financial advisors. Currently residing in Centereach, Jim has spent his entire life in the Long Island area. He and his wife Angela, are the proud parents of two young children.
